November 23_CUA Exhibits at the Grand Palais!
Four students from CUA had the honor of exhibiting their project at the Salon d'Art en Capital in the historic Grand Palais! The Art en Capital was created in 2005 to celebrate the reopening of the Grand Palais that year. The event allows hundreds of artists together from various artistic fields to display their work and create an open forum for the discussion of the new and innovative works. This year, Shelby Foster, Shiela Lee, Rouzbeh Mokhtari and Jessica Willard were chosen to display their projects at the Salon d'Art en Capital. We were all extremely proud and excited to be witness their accomplishment.
November 04 _ Berlin Sketchbooks are Submitted
Less than one week after we returned from Berlin, the students were asked to submit their sketchbooks. The Students were required to do all of the sketching freehand and mostly on site. Even though the students were travelling at a almost hectic pace all over the city, the students seem to have taken advantage of their surroundings and rose to the challenge. The results are quite impressive. Below are samples of the student work from Berlin.

October 30_ Kleihues + Kleihues Architects and Sankt-Canisius Church
Kleihues + Kliehues Architects
The students had the opportunity to meet and have a Q&A session and a tour of the firm from the one of the Principal Architect Josef P. Kleihues himself.
Catholic Church, Sankt Canisius Kirche
Designed by Heike Buttner, Claus Neumann and George Braun.
Minister Pater Joachin Gimbler SJ gave the students an enthusiastic lecture on the architecture's physical form and the philosophical connections. Although the building is a simple cube, its design is nonetheless based on complex geometrical proportions, and the dimensions of its concrete frame would befit a municipal building. The design includes not only the church itself but also a garden outside in the style of a medieval paradise (narthex). A slim bell-tower sets a vertical accent against the solid cube, possibly influenced by Le Corbusier’s. The interior is calm and collected, and the magic of the light shining in and playing on the concrete surfaces brings the building to life.
Finally, we had to say goodbye to Berlin. The city, architecture and people have been good to us.
