August 29_Orientation at Tour Eiffel

What is more exciting than meeting all of your classmates and professors for the first time? Meeting them for a picnic at the Champs de Mars under the Eiffel Tower.  The students got more than a chance to meet their professors and receive their syllabi. They got their first experience in true French living: eating cheese and baguettes in a park.

After the Paris group conquered the bread and cheese, it was then time to explore the Siene River. The Siene runs through the very center of Paris, dividing the city into a left and a right bank.  The students got the opportunity to ride a boat taxi (BatoBus) that took them down the river and allowed them to get introduced to some of Paris’s most famous sites such as Invalides, Le Louvre, Pont des Arts, and Notre Dame.

The group ended the day with a formal wine and cheese tasting in a cave that was once connected to the Louvre by a tunnel. In the 17th Century, King Louis XV used it as his personal Royal Cellar.   It was a beautiful place to end an exciting first day.
